Discovery Connection Inc.: Empowering Communities Through Advocacy and Action
Discovery Connection Inc. has championed initiatives that empower youth and individuals with disabilities, creating lasting impacts in the community. From 2004 to 2008, the organization amplified the voices of youth transitioning out of foster care, influencing advocacy efforts and awareness campaigns nationwide. Founder Suzi McQueen’s personal commitment as a foster parent to over 20 displaced youth underscores the organization’s dedication to providing safe and nurturing environments.
Through programs like the Youth Summit Club, Inc., and partnerships with institutions like Valencia Community College and UCF, Discovery Connection Inc. has equipped foster youth with essential financial literacy, education, and career opportunities. Their impact has been recognized with prestigious accolades, including the Fifth Third Bank Orlando Magic Maker Award in 2009.
Driving Inclusion and Expanding Opportunities
The organization has achieved remarkable milestones by fostering business partnerships, building infrastructure like a 211 Call Center for at-risk foster youth, and delivering statewide presentations to advocate for individuals with disabilities. Suzi McQueen’s leadership extended to serving on influential boards and as Vice President of Arise Unlimited Inc., where she expanded employment pathways for individuals with disabilities. Discovery Connection Inc. has forged alliances with over 80 businesses in Florida, facilitating employment and job placement services for thousands. By organizing enriching cultural experiences like the Essence Art Festival for foster youth, the organization prioritizes holistic growth and representation. With an enduring mission to uplift marginalized groups, Discovery Connection Inc. continues to break barriers and drive meaningful change.
